Galen D. Urick, age 79, of Troy, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney. He was born on May 5, 1944, in Troy, Ohio to the late Horace and Eva (Fuller) Urick.
Galen is survived by his daughters and son-in-law: Kimberly Mote of Troy, Ohio, Betsy and Steve Johnson of Bexley, Ohio and Rebecca DeForde of Sidney, Ohio; sister: Carol Renshaw of Troy; and grandchildren: Alex, Hunter, Eva Jean, and Leo. In addition to his parents, Galen was preceded in death by his wife: Donna Jean Urick on June 22, 2010.
Galen was a member of First United Church of Christ in Troy. He was a volunteer at the church, served as deacon and usher, and had played on their softball team. Galen was a former member of Staunton Grange. He retired from Hobart Corporation after 45 years. Galen enjoyed carpentry, bowling and fishing. He also enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the rain and the birds.
Galen was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, and treated all those he loved like family. He often gained nicknames “pappy” and “pops” as terms of endearment.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on June 17, 2023 at First United Church of Christ in Troy. Private interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Englewood, Ohio.
